A lesbian couple from Pakistan are seeking asylum in the UK after having defied death threats in order to get a civil partnership. Rehana Kausar, 34, and Sobia Kamar, 29, originally lived in separate parts of Pakistan, and met three years ago after coming to Birmingham University to study business and health care management. Earlier this month they held a civil partnership ceremony in Leeds Registry Office. Relatives of the couple said they had hoped to celebrate their relationship with an Islamic ceremony, but were unable to find an imam willing to conduct one. They have since received death threats from Pakistan and within the UK and are seeking asylum. Their families say they would not be safe if they returned to their native country. “This country allows us rights and it’s a very personal decision that we have taken. It’s no one’s business as to what we do with our personal lives,” Ms Kausar told the Sunday Mercury. “The problem with Pakistan is that everyone believes he is in charge of other people lives and can best decide about the morals of others but that’s not the right approach. We are in this state because of our clergy, who have hijacked our society, which was once tolerant and respected individuals’ freedoms.” A relative said: “The couple did not have an Islamic marriage ceremony, known as a nikah, as they could not find an imam to conduct what would have been a controversial ceremony. “They have been very brave throughout as our religion does not condone homosexuality. The couple have had their lives threatened both here and in Pakistan and there is no way they could ever return there.” Research published earlier this year by the University of Southampton shows LGBT asylum seekers are regularly being asked “inappropriate and insensitive” questions by UK judges. The research, based on interviews with 11 lesbians from countries including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Uganda and Jamaica found that the interviewees were frequently disbelieved by immigration judges, and faced questions such as whether they had read Oscar Wilde of attended Pride in an attempt to determine their sexuality.

A gay teenager in Italy who wrote an impassioned letter published in a newspaper has been invited to parliament by the President of the Chamber of Deputies. Davide Tancredi wrote to La Repubblica newspaper in a letter published 25 May: “I am gay, I am 17-years old and this letter is my last alternative to suicide in a troglodyte society; in a world that does not accept me even though I’m born that way. “Not everyone is fortunate enough to be born heterosexual. If there was a little less discrimination and a little more sympathy or Christian charity, people would stop hating.” The Independent reports that Laura Boldrini, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, responded to the letter by inviting Mr Tancredi to parliament to discuss LGBT rights with him. “I have a daughter not much older than you, and I’m deeply disturbed by your cry for help,” she wrote. “A country that considers itself civilised cannot afford to live without a law against ‘homophobia, an evil that drives many young people to take their own lives,” she added, criticising Italy’s lack of anti-discrimination laws. ILGA-Europe’s 2013 report states that Italy is not taking any legislative initiatives despite having a “relatively high level” of violent homophobia and transphobia. Boldrini has angered the Italian right by defying her neutral position as speaker to make statements on social issues such as LGBT rights. On the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia this month she gave a speech condemning macho culture for reducing “women to objects and homosexuals to caricatures.” Earlier this month a junior equalities minister lasted less than 24 hours in her post as a member of Italy’s new coalition government, after she said that gay people invite discrimination by “ghettoising” themselves.
Having returned to professional sport after a short retirement, openly gay player Robbie Rogers is with US team LA Galaxy, coming back to excellent support and a win in his debut game. Former Leeds United player Robbie Rogers made his historic debut in Major League Soccer, playing for LA Galaxy, who won against the Seattle Sounders 4-0 last night. He made the debut less than 24 hours after officially signing for the team, as MLS confirmed it had received his international transfer papers, stepping off the bench to a standing ovation from Galaxy fans. Writing on Instagram, Rogers said: “An exciting future lies ahead, not only for me but for our society,” beside a picture of him posing with the LA Galaxy scarf and kit. Rogers quit professional football in January, shortly before coming out as gay. He had returned to training with the Los Angeles team three weeks ago, and is now the first openly gay Major League Soccer player. He said he was inspired to return to the sport after attending the Nike Be True LGBT Youth Forum in Portland last month. “I seriously felt like a coward,” he said. “These kids are standing up for themselves and changing the world, and I’m 25, I have a platform and a voice to be a role model. How much of a coward was I to not step up to the plate. “I was a little scared to put myself back in that situation but after the first few days I was like, ‘wow, I miss this, I love this,’” Rogers said. “Once I got on the field, I felt really normal. More normal than I ever did in the past. I just want to be able to compete. Every day in training, make my team better and prove myself.” Rogers would no longer be the only openly gay Major League player, since in April NBA star Jason Collins confirmed he is gay in an article to Sports Illustrated magazine. He said: “I’m a 34-year-old NBA center. I’m black. And I’m gay.”

Sekarang, jualan tiket filem francais Too Fast Too Furious 6 atau dikenali sebagai Fast 6 sedang laku macam goreng pisang panas!

Ketika ditanya bagaimana dia mengetahui berhubung Facebook terbabit, Hamsani berkata, dia mengetahui melalui bapa saudaranya.
“Setelah kami melihat gambar yang terdapat dalam Facebook itu, bapa Dofi mengecam pakaian, kasut dan tali pinggang yang dipakai oleh anaknya,” katanya.
Sementara itu, Timbalan Ketua Polis Serdang, Deputi Superintendan Lam Chien Fei ketika dihubungi mengesahkan berhubung penemuan rangka manusia di kawasan terbabit, semalam.
Beliau berkata, penemuan rangka kedua-dua mangsa ditemui kira-kira jam 3.15 petang semalam, selepas suspek pertama ditahan ketika menunjukkan lokasi kejadian kepada polis.
– Sinar Harian Online

UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights to Cambodia Surya P Subedi. The UN, bowing to international pressure to affect a peaceful settlement of the long standing Cambodian conflict, had had to undertake the role of midwife in relations to the warring parties and their respective patrons sitting at its influential Permanent Council body, armed with one of the largest funding budgets in its history - over $2 billions US for a single project - in this mission. Whilst some of its initial accomplishments - repatriation of Cambodian refugees along the border with Thailand, institution of a multiparty political model, getting the Cambodia government to sign Human Rights Charters etc. - its overall success rate has been modest - and some might argue - congruous with its limited and superfluous or ambiguous influence in seeing out its own aims and visions. In fact, multiparty political assembly along with the UN's presence in the country, constitutional monarchy, the Paris Peace Accords had all been effectively squashed or neutered and/or dead in the water from the time of the violent coup of 1997. The ending of armed conflict has seen the influx of foreign investors into the country, the resurgence in largely free market activities as well as the growth in services sectors, especially, in international tourism which all contribute to the nation's increased 'budget' and a healthy GDP. But these benefits are generally and systematically reaped by the ruling political and economic elite through in-built backhanded channels and mechanisms and enforced non-transparency, leaving the vast population mired in dire condition of subsistence and hand-to-mouth fight for survival. If the social situation is as bleak as I have just described, why then has there been no real popular outcry or reaction against the ruling party on a vaster scale, and strong enough to threaten its stranglehold on power? Well, that is for you - the reader - to reflect upon. What I would like to add is that for whatever factors or dynamics, whoever had ruled Cambodia from December/January 1979 [or even before then] to  September 1989, and up until the UN's brief intervention in 1993 are/is still in de facto control of her today. In effect, this is largely made possible because not only 'opposition forces' and the conditions they need to prevail by - multiparty climate or pluralism - had been denied them ["I want the Opposition dead!": Hun Sen], but the Midwife to the Cambodian drama had also been pacified or ostracized as a counter interested party, and has remained so for some time now, and Mr/Prof Subedi is probably more conscious of this fact than anyone else is. If he had not been so previously, he is now - after having been heckled and barracked by those mobs affiliated to the ruling party and Mr Hun Sen. Exercise of free speech? Try disrupting Nguyen Tan Dung of Vietnam or the Chinese Premier on their next visit to Phnom Penh and see what happens! - School of Vice

But, Prof Subedi is just a ghost specter sent into town to haunt - periodically - a few control freaks, that's all...really...

Good job, lad! One of the hecklers – Mr Chea Chheng - during Prof Subedi’s recent lecture at the Mekong University seen here receiving gifts from Mr Hun Sen. Chheng’s attack on Prof Subedi appears to centre on his report's 'unfavourable'/ ‘biased’ contents as these relate to Cambodia’s overall civil and human rights conditions which in Chhen’s argument can do damage to the country’s international ‘image’. Such a scenario - the argument goes - could dissuade potential investors from considering investing in Cambodia. This is a specious and unfeasible argument to advance not only in light of Cambodia’s mass misery brought about by corrupt commercial deals and ‘unsound’ business practices and by the loss of national sovereignty in the immediate and long terms, but also in face of worldwide economic developments and patterns that have overwhelmingly shown economic well-being or prosperity and a strong investment climate to be inseparable from, and synonymous with favourable democratic and civil right environments. For instance, Ms Aung San Suu Kyi of Burma [Myanmar] recently called upon [potential or prospective] foreign investors to press their local Burmese counterparts for maximum transparency at all levels in their business dealings. This is because sound business practices tend to foster business confidence, helping to engender long term socio-political stability that rests upon having a well-represented [unionised] workforce at the one end, and a body of sound-ethical investors themselves, at the other School of Vice

Visiting UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights to Cambodia Surya P Subedi has appealed to all political parties and the election body to do everything in accordance with law in order to ensure that July’s general election would be free and fair.

“I once again urge all parties and National Election Committee to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections,” he said at a press briefing after a one-week fact-finding mission on the human rights situation in Cambodia. “All sides should play by the rules, demonstrate maturity in debate, and not engage in insulting games. “
The envoy also urged for fair and equitable access to the state media and the strict prohibition of use of state resources by any political party during the election campaign, Xinhua reported.
Moreover, he appealed to all sides concerned to refrain completely from exploiting racial sentiments to garner support for their election campaign. “I will continue to monitor the electoral system and process in the country,” he said.
Cambodia is scheduled to hold a general election on July 28, according to the National Election Committee.

Re: UN envoy urges fair polls in Cambodia

Mr. School of Vice,
Thank you very much for your insight and great love for our tragically unfortunate country.
The great lion uses cunning or even resorts to low cunning in order to prey on a smaller wolf; the victimized wolf, even though it has suffered tremendously at the hand of the wicked lion, unfortunately uses the same style of hunting to prey upon the domestic animals with the assistance of the silly ones in order to bring to the lion the delicious meat of the smaller and weaker birds forgetting that, once all the birds are gone, it is the meat of the wolf itself that the lion will happily savour with deliciously expensive French wines.
'Only in Cambodia where one can get a doctorate degree and yet cannot write or even think!'
As you have said it quite eloquently, whoever had ruled Cambodia from December/January 1979 [or even before then] to September 1989, and up until the UN's brief intervention in 1993 are/is still in de facto control of her today. This “whoever” has taught the wolf quite well and continues to influence its tactics in how to take control of and exploit the domestic animals using the always feasible ancient method of divide and conquer to rule the village where most of the smaller birds know exactly what is going on, but choose to remain silent for whatever reason, thus allowing the few short-sighted, but quite selfish ones to work for the wolf obviously with every intention to fatten themselves at the destruction of the rest of the birds and village and possibly the disappearance of the village altogether.

I have watched with great concern the direction to which our country is moving for some time now. I hope I do not see the complete subjugation of our beloved country in my lifetime or in any time of the future, but I do certainly fear for the future of our beautiful, again I repeat, our beautiful, but unfortunate country of Cambodia.
These so-called educated hecklers affiliated to the ruling party used the freedom of speech guaranteed in a democratic society to distract public attention to the destruction and devastation of the country committed by the CPP who are indeed their boss. I would have no problem seeing the disagreement being expressed in a civilized manner with an attempt to understand why the UN representative judges Cambodia the way he has done. After all, they can prepare a counter argument and express it in a noble way. Somehow I strongly doubt they have the kind of education and thought required for such a purpose. By their rowdy behaviour they certainly do possess the ability and tendency to resort to violence to prove their unfounded points.
What scares me the most is that even in our current modern era of technology and great knowledge, a surprisingly disturbing number of Cambodian youths appear to have learnt nothing concrete from school and the rest of the world and yet thousands of degrees are passed out each year! Only in Cambodia where one can get a doctorate degree and yet cannot write or even think!

Vujicic was born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare disorder characterized by the absence of all four limbs. Amid childhood bullying, he once tried to drown himself.
He credits Christianity with giving him the will to continue, and founded a California-based religious charitable organization when he was 19. Now 30 and married with one son, he has visited 47 countries as part of his global outreach.
Vujicic's trip to Vietnam was organized by local Christians but sponsored by a large construction company headed by a Buddhist. The company said it had spent $1.7 million staging his eight events in two cities, recognizing the value of having its brand associated with a good-looking foreigner with a compelling tale of success and family values, not to mention eye-catching images of him surfing, skateboarding and playing golf.
Shares for the company, the Hoa Sen group, rose nearly 10 percent over the last four days, with Vujicic its only major recent publicity.

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — The 25,000 people at the soccer stadium and the millions more watching at home waited 90 minutes before the Australian evangelical preacher got to the message he had come to Communist-ruled Vietnam to deliver.
"Do you know why I love God?" Nick Vujicic asked a young girl on stage who, like him, was born without arms and legs. "Because heaven is real. And one day when we get to heaven, we are going to have arms and legs. And we are going to run, and we are going play, and we are going to race."
The remark was Vujicic's only direct reference to his faith in a night that was otherwise motivational. Most people in the audience were not Christians, but were attracted to Vujicic as a living example of overcoming adversity.
Yet Vujicic's appearance is a sign of how a government that once severely restricted religion as a challenge to its authoritarian one-party rule is now taking a slightly more relaxed attitude. Those associated with Vujicic's Vietnam tour said it was the first by a foreign Christian — and the largest gathering to be addressed by a foreigner in the country's recent history.
For Vujicic (VOOY-CHEECH) and the 12 members of "Team Nick," the mostly Californian crew organizing his Asian tour, it was another country to add to the long list in which he has spread the Gospel. His charity had revenues of more than $1.6 million last year, his YouTube videos have been watched millions of times and he has authored three bestselling books.
"We are a unique ministry. We can go on national TV where other Christians cannot," Vujicic said backstage Thursday, his face and hair wet from a tropical downpour that almost cut short his appearance on a hot Hanoi evening. "Of course, in Vietnam there are limitations in how you can and can't talk about your faith, but with wisdom we come in. Some places we go we have to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves."
Nguyen Dat An, a Christian who organized the trip, said he was surprised the state broadcaster didn't cut off Vujicic's speech when he brought up God and heaven.
Vujicic's translator appeared to be caught unawares, and stumbled. "Come on man," said the Australian, urging him to translate his words.
"This was a miracle in Vietnam," said An. "God is the general director of this event."
Vietnam is about 8 percent Christian and 16 percent Buddhist, while about 45 percent of Vietnamese belong to indigenous religions, according to the 2010 Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life. Vietnam's constitutions provide for religious freedom, but in practice it is regulated and in some cases restricted. Followers who speak up in favor of democracy face abuse, arrest and long sentences.
The U.S. State Department's 2012 report on international religious freedom noted the restrictions but said there "were signs of progress." The country is often compared favorably to China, its giant authoritarian neighbor, in discussions on religious freedom.
Hoa Sen's sponsorship paid for a huge marketing campaign: billboards around major cities, social media buzz and his appearance on the front pages of most state-run newspapers when he arrived on Wednesday. It created a lot of the attention around his visit, but it was also clear his story struck a chord among many in Vietnam.
Tickets, given away by sponsors to those who registered, were being sold by touts for $10 outside the stadium, while young girls with "Love Nick" stickers on their cheeks checked pink cellphones and waited for friends to arrive. The crowd was larger than when the Vietnamese national soccer played regional rival Indonesia in the same stadium last year.
"I just want to see him in real life," said 19-year-old student Tong Thi Nhung, who found out about Vujicic on Facebook. "He is amazing."
None of the marketing or media coverage mentioned Vujicic's faith, though it is clear from a glance at his website that it is his central purpose in life. Of eight people asked at the concert, which was preceded by a local rock band, lucky draws and bubbling TV presenters, none were Christians or even aware of Vujicic's religion.
Vujicic, who is able to stand up and move around on his pelvis, shuffled round on a small table set up on a stage on corner of the field. In a talk laced with jokes, platitudes and attempts at Vietnamese, he spoke out against bullying and drinking; on the need for forgiveness and hope; and respect for family. All those themes resonate with Vietnamese and their leaders, one of whom — the vice president — was watching from the VIP area.
Vujicic took the speech into potential sensitive territory with vague remarks about Ho Chi Minh, the founder of the country.
"Uncle Ho believed in Vietnam and here we are, but we must keep moving forward in liberty," he said.
Many disabled people attended; some joined him on stage and embraced him. His message on the need to help and respect those with disabilities had extra resonance in a country where birth defects linked to Agent Orange defoliant sprayed by the U.S. during the Vietnam War are widespread.
The Rev. Peter Kham, the Roman Catholic deputy bishop of Ho Chi Minh City, welcomed the trip, saying he was "personally so happy to see a Christian preaching what he believes."
In recent years, Vietnam has generally allowed large congregations to gather, churches and temples to be built and made it easier to register new denominations.
But Kham also said the country, which doesn't celebrate any religious holidays as national holidays and has no televised religious programs, still has far to go.
"Even though our churches are filled with people, we can't be involved in health care or in education. Everything belongs to the government. There is a political monopoly," said Kham. "There is still friction, but there have been developments.
 "God Sleepeth Not"

To the student body of Germany:

History has taught you nothing if you think you can kill ideas. Tyrants have tried to do that often before, and the ideas have risen up in their might and destroyed them.

You can burn my books and the books of the best minds in Europe, but the ideas in them have seeped through a million channels and will continue to quicken other minds. I gave all the royalties of my books for all time to the German soldiers blinded in the World War with no thought in my heart but love and compassion for the German people.

I acknowledge the grievous complications that have led to your intolerance; all the more do I deplore the injustice and unwisdom of passing on to unborn generations the stigma of your deeds.

Do not imagine that your barbarities to the Jews are unknown here. God sleepeth not, and He will visit His judgment upon you. Better were it for you to have a mill-stone hung around your neck and sink into the sea than to be hated and despised of all men.

Abigail Disney: If you take five minutes to watch this you will be so glad. I don't understand why evolution does serve as yet further proof that there is a God, or some kind of divine force. Otherwise, how could the world be so overwhelmingly gorgeous that it can bring a tear to your eye?

Reading MARK
Background Notes

Recently, I discovered the sermons of my college pastor online. While at Georgetown University (1991-95), I, along with 10-20 other Georgetown friends, attended Fourth Presbyterian Church, a 10-15 minute drive from campus through the manicured estates of Northwest Washington, DC to the leafy suburban neighborhood of Bethesda in Maryland.
We drank in the deep wisdom of our college director, Chuck Jacob (now a senior pastor at Knox Presbyterian in Ann Arbor, MI) and of Dr. Rob Norris on Sunday mornings (and at times, classes he taught during the week days).
When I attended, the US Vice-President Dan Quayle and his family (and security detail), my Georgetown professor former UN Ambassador Jeanne Kirkpatrick, and many other well-known names from politics, academia and media, also attended. Dr. Norris' predecessor was then-chaplain of the US Senate, Dr. Richard Halverson.

All to say, if all of these accomplished people came Sunday after Sunday and benefited from Dr. Norris' sermons, maybe we too can find intellectual as well as spiritual nourishment from these talks?
It does not take long before one is taken in by the profundity and the humor -- not to mention, the accent! -- of Dr. Norris's exposition.
